Father's Day 2012

For Father's Day this year, we celebrated Kevin ALL DAY!!  First, Kaitlyn and I made him breakfast and gave him his gifts.  He got an Alabama T-Shirt that says "My favorite team is Alabama.....and anyone who plays Auburn."  His response, "You are going to get me beat up by an Auburn fan." HA!

We went to church with Bob and Kim McIntyre Father's Day morning and witnessed Bob signing The Resolution from the Courageous Study.  During the service, we heard testimonies from some of the men that participated in the study at their church.

One man that is not a father yet talked about being a Godly man for his wife and future children.  One man talked about his father who was in the Air Force and now lives in a retirement home. He talked about the past resentment he held on to because his father was gone so much during his childhood.  One man talked about his father who passed away 7 years ago.  And the last man to speak was the leader of the class. He talked about his marriage of 22 years that ended in divorce 5 years ago and the non-existent relationship he has with his two children who are in their early 20's.  It was a very powerful message.

After the testimonies were over, the leader passed out copies of The Resolution that these men were going to sign, or had already signed, and called out the names of those men to come up front to take their vow of commitment.  He opened up the floor to any other man in the service that wanted to sign The Resolution, whether they had been part of the study or not.  We completed the study at Graceway back before Easter but had never done anything with The Resolution.  I looked to my left, where Kevin was sitting, and he was up and walking.  He said the Holy Spirit kept weighing on him that he needed to sign as well.  So, he joined Bob up front, signed The Resolution and took his vow of commitment with Bob.  Kim and I both were crying (I didn't know she cried until later in the day when she sent me a text), and now Kevin and Bob have someone to lean on and hold the other accountable.  That's a huge deal!!  I am so proud of both of these men.  They are making a difference in their families lives and I am honored to be a part of it!

After Church, Kaitlyn and I took Kevin to Wentzell's for lunch.  He LOVES raw oysters and they were having a 'free half dozen for dad' special. So, he had a dozen, and Kaitlyn ate one with him.  I think they are gross, so I did not eat one.  :)

We also went to visit Kevin's dad.  When it comes to in-laws, I am a very blessed girl!!  Kevin's dad is a wonderful man and he raised an amazing son!  We spent a couple of hours over there just visiting.  We don't get to do that often because of life and how busy we stay with ball so it was nice to just sit and talk.

This picture was not taken on Father's Day,
but it's my favorite picture of them. :)

I talked to my dad around 9pm last night.  It was late, but at least we got to talk.  I really wish that I had a closer relationship with my dad, but I guess I should be thankful for what I have instead of wishing for what will never be.

I have The Resolution Cards on my desk at work and my very first one to look at, on the day after Father's Day, was:

I Will embrace my current season of life
and live with a spirit of contentment.

The memory verse:

'True Godliness with contentment is itself
great wealth." 1 Timothy 6:6

I really don't think it was a mistake that THAT was the first card I read.  Yes, Lord, I hear You!! :)

Father's Day always makes me miss my Paw Paw.  He has been in Heaven since February 15, 2011.  He was my hero.  He was not an easy man to be around when we were younger, but as I got older, got married and had a baby, he started to mellow out a lot!  He was so funny and could make me laugh at the drop of a hat.  He could also put me in my place like no other.  Losing him was one of the toughest things I have ever been through.  This was the second Father's Day I had where I couldn't see him, and it doesn't get any easier.

I miss you, Paw Paw.  I hope that you and Jesus had a FABULOUS Father's Day together!!  I love you! :)
